A Toast to Taiwan’s Classic Breakfast – Beer Brewed with Toast Crusts

“Auntie! One toast without the crust and an iced black tea!” That’s a go-to breakfast order for many in Taiwan. Ugly Half teamed up with their neighborhood bakery, Mei & Mei, in Wugu District to collect discarded toast crusts and create their 30th experimental limited-edition draft beer—which was an instant hit!

This golden lager is rich in malty aroma with notes of toasted bread and caramel sweetness. Toasted crusts are chopped up and mixed in with other grains for mashing, then steeped with Assam black tea leaves into the hot wort to bring out a delicately sweet tea fragrance.
